Is a bridge without a connection still a bridge? Or is it purely a construction that resembles a bridge? With this work I want the viewer to think about function and context. What is and what isn't?
Many have taken that question to themselves. Almost every day when I walked past my work, which was next to the academy and small pond, I saw people trying to start a relationship with it. You look at it, but something isn't right. I saw children jumping on it with boots on, a young man with a scooter who claimed he would drive over it, a few candles had been placed and even some dogs that started sniffing out of curiosity.
2019
Another month passes and the structure is gone. After a short investigation I came into conversation with one of the gardeners at the Volkspark in Enschede, the place where I parked it. They were full of questions that they could not answer. He told me they tore it down and got rid of it. Inside I wanted to cry, but the thought that they didn't know what to do with it gave me a small spark of joy.
